Improve Your Performance

Sports massage is an essential part of any athletes training program and for good reason too; did you know an athlete’s peak performance can depend greatly on the proper application and use of sports massage? That’s right. Sports massage, once predominantly known as a treatment for injury is used widely during training thanks to its amazing benefits not only physically but psychologically and physiologically too.

Reduce Fatigue

Sports massage was designed to help prepare an athlete for their very best performance by reducing the onset of fatigue while helping to relieve swelling and tension after hard training sessions. What many aren’t aware of is that during extremely strenuous physical activity, muscle tension begins to build up within the soft tissues.

Relieve Your Pain

Whether it’s due to overuse or overextension, minor injuries and even lesions can occur in these tissues, causing a great deal of pain which in turn, lends itself to poor performance. Sports massage, and deep tissue massage for that matter, can help to relieve the pain and prevent injuries that would otherwise affect mobility, response time and even flexibility.

Combat DOMS

One of the most common problems for athletes, one that causes many a setback, happens to be delayed-onset muscle soreness, otherwise known as DOMS. DOMS refers to the muscle pain that you’d typically associate some hours post exercise. While recent research has shown DOMS may not necessarily affect muscle damage, it will hinder an athletes ability to train at his or her best the following day/s. It’s for this reason that sports massage can be beneficial by helping to alleviate and in some cases, prevent the effects completely.

Reduce DOMS By 30%

A recent study even revealed that massage, be it sports massage or deep tissue massage could help alleviate DOMS by around 30% while also reducing swelling and it does so by improving the blood circulation as well as the lymphatic system circulation too as they assist in the removal of toxins. Heavily exercised muscles are also known for their inability to relax which can lead on to things such as chronically tight muscles, a loss of flexibility and subsequently, a predisposition to injuries
